Community Garden

Derwenthorpe Community Garden was set up in 2013 by group of residents on a new development in Osbaldwick. Derwenthorpe is a housing development with twist as it has beautifully designed eco homes nestled in tastefully designed green spaces. However one element of recreational community space wasn't included in the design and that was space to grow food or even using fruit trees as some of the new trees planted onsite. So hey presto a few green fingered people suggested we have a community garden, a few months later we applied for a grant and were kindly given a patch of grass by Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust to create a growing garden for all to enjoy.

We were also kindly donated 18 fruit trees by TCV's Get Growing Project that we planted around the development and this year we will have a decent harvest of apples! With our grant we have built raised beds, bought seeds and plants and a lovely bench that we can sit on and look out on our little garden!

Come and have a potter in the garden and help with planting, seed sowing and raised bed building.
